Syl Shoemake grew up in the East Texas Piney Woods of Huntsville and currently resides and works in New Braunfels, Texas. Syl credits her mother for recognizing and providing opportunities for her creative talents to flourish. She inherited her mother’s artistic ability to create. At an early age, Syl’s mother taught her to sew, and continued to encourage Syl as she developed her “creative” side. As a child, Syl Shoemake developed many creative talents such as, cross stitch, embroidery, crochet, quilting, decoupage, ceramics, knitting and beaded embellishments. An additional three years of art classes aided in developing Syl’s drawing and painting talents.
Throughout the years Syl exercised a career in accounting in numerous industries. She married Jeff in 1986, leaving the Houston area, and moved to the beautiful Hill Country. Following twenty years in the metal fabrication business, Syl turned her efforts back to her creative passion. Now, she designs and handcrafts jewelry in her home studio. Syl attends several art shows a year as well as participating in local and regional exhibitions. Her hand crafted jewelry can be found in galleries and shops around Texas.
